Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for your interest in the Dare to Lead™ program developed by Dr. Brené Brown delivered by Sabrina L. Moon, MEng with the Problem Solving Institute, LLC.

Daring leadership is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, observable, and measurable.

Below are some frequently asked questions of our consulting firm from organizations that are curious about the program.

  • The Dare to Lead™ leadership development program is a skills based, action oriented program/playbook that develops leaders in courage-building skills. Imagine a workplace where leaders can have hard, respectful conversations, build trust through genuine connection and tend to fears and feelings of individuals. Dare to Lead™ teaches leaders how to lead with whole hearts and manage uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure. Who we are is how we lead.

  • It depends on leadership’s willingness to learn the skills first. Courage work is challenging, it requires leaders to bring their whole selves to the party. If the leadership team is willing to see the connection that courage has in the workplace, willing and able to name obstacles, willing to allocate time and resources to development and willing to go first regarding their courage development, then it’s probable and reasonable to develop the entire culture within 12 months or less. Commitment to practicing these new skills is an ongoing commitment, however. Any type of change, including culture change typically takes between 3-5 years to see progress.

  • Anyone who leads or is responsible for developing skills or sees the potential in others are ideal candidates. Some examples: boards, senior leadership teams, front line supervisors, fire starters, evangelists, influencers, ambassadors of culture. Any type of industry or organization can benefit. Think about who impacts your culture and start there.

  • Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitators are trained and certified to teach and facilitate the skills and practices of Dare to Lead™ with individuals, teams, and organizations. They are authorized by Brené Brown Education and Research Group (BBEARG) to offer workshops, trainings, and/or coaching related to the Dare to Lead™ content. They are certified by Brené Brown, are evaluated by Brené Brown’s team and are annually re-certified.

  • You can use it in many ways. Have meetings about what they have learned, download the companion work book, download values, trust building and so many available resources from Brené’s website. Have role playing sessions, integrate the learnings into your onboarding, weekly meetings, performance reviews, etc. Start using the language, practice the skills and more. Courage skills are teachable, observable and measurable.

  • Yes, but the facilitators are not intended to intervene to “save the day,” provide crisis support or financial turnaround support. While some facilitators have these skills, they are in place to teach you and your team the courage-building skills necessary to scale this work in your own organization. See them as temporary support. Commitment to daring leadership is required of your organization’s leaders for this work to be sustainable. You must actually change how you "show up."

  • You have a few options. Visit brenebrown.com/daretolead for various resources and downloads to support you and your team. Contact a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator. Attend a Dare to Lead™ executive preview session, a Dare to Lead™ open enrollment workshop or schedule on-site workshops for your organization that accommodates your team. Facilitators are in place to support you and your team with on-site support/consulting, individual coaching or through workshop training. The Problem Solving Institute’s owner, Sabrina Moon, is a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator. Read more about Sabrina here: Sabrina’s Bio

  • No. If you successfully complete a workshop with the Problem Solving Institute, you will be Dare to Lead™ Trained (and can add the Dare to Lead™ Trained badge on LinkedIn), which means you can take your team through our Daring Teams Rollout Program (DTRP). The DTRP was developed specifically for Dare to Lead™ Trained individuals to share the work with their own teams, serving as the group coordinator and co-learner – not as a trainer or facilitator. However, as a Dare to Lead™ Trained individual, you are not certified to facilitate the curriculum or offer the Dare to Lead™ Training. This is not a TRAIN THE TRAINER program.
